My first 3D illustration!

Posted: February 21, 2012 in Uncategorized

I had to pick up a new class last minute after the one I had registered for got cancelled. What was available? 3D illustration was and I must say I think it is working out for the best. So far, so good. We are using the Cinema 4D program, it is very cool and I’m excited about what I’ve learned so far. This 1st object is made by just using some of the primitive shapes that come with the program. My goal was to make a 3D pattern like my 2D ones, enjoy!

Well, I had a very busy and productive fall semester. The only thing I didn’t do was keep you posted on what I was doing. That is all going to change now. I’m going to put together some posts to share the fruits of my labor from this fall and winter break.

The most exciting new thing in my art life has been getting an iPad2. Now I have a digital sketchbook/ studio everywhere I go. So for now I will share some of the quick paintings I’ve done with my 2 favorite art apps for the iPad2, SketchBook Pro and ArtRage.

I hope you enjoy these and I look forward to continuing to share more with you.

Thanks to my father-in-law, Big Steve we were given the opportunity to see the Lion King at the Hippodrome in Baltimore. It’s difficult to put into words how amazing this show is. It ranks right there with Wicked. A definite must see, it will not disappoint. This is a bucket list item that my wife Angela and I were lucky enough to check off rather early.

Back in the summer I ran across this cool invention PenMoto in an e-mail from Wacom. The project was born on the web site, KickStarter. The most recent update has the units for the original backers being shipped sometime between the 23rd and 28th of this month. I’m so excited to get mine. Between my Wacom tablet and my new iPad this is going to be super cool!!! After I get mine I will post some pics and maybe a short video of it in action.

I received the August eNews from Wacom and found this very cool invention that is an add-on for any stylus pen you use either for your Wacom tablet or any other tablet like an iPad, etc. I love this thing and hope that it gets funded so that I can get mine. Please check it out: http://t.co/Znd2wgM

What?, yes I’m still alive! I hope everyone is having a great summer so far and staying cool. I have been enjoying the warm weather and crocheting my butt off, getting things together for my Etsy site. I’m so excited about having some new fun things to offer there. My next step is to get some actual artwork up, available as digital prints and work from there. Here are some photos of my various cozies, totes, golf club covers and throws. For more details just click on the Etsy tab and link to my store. I am done with my break and will be posting more often now. Until next time keep smilin’ !!!

Thanks to Etsy.com I have a store for all my hand made stuff. Right now I have 8 wooden mirrors that I cut and painted. I’m in the process of getting the models ready for some of my crocheted items such as a beautiful throw pattern that I love along with some cozies that I make for various mobile devices, notebooks, laptops, tablets and phones. They will all be color customizable. The links to my stores are on the corresponding pages at the top the page. Thanks for checking in, keep smilin’.

It’s official the spring semester is over and summer can begin. The ADIM (art, design, and interactive media) department at CCBC puts on an end of the year student art show and I had some of my work chosen to be in it. To my delighted surprise, my book Twenty Grit won the 1st place award for the illustration category, yay! So needless to say that was a great start to the summer.

Over the weekend I successfully set up my store on Etsy.com @ http://www.etsy.com/shop/gbgasart I only have one item up but as soon as I do some shipping cost research there will be much more to come, I’m so excited about making stuff and sharing it with you!

Well I’m off to do my reconnaissance for the shipping. I’ll be back.

Stay tuned and stay smilin’,

I was going to wait until it was completely done and bound but I can’t. I must share it with you now. I just finished the cover and it’s drying as I type. You’ll see in the photo the gel medium is still a bit milky. This project is for my typography class and is the final project. It is a none traditional type specimen book. I decided to focus on a variety of my own hand drawn type. I really like graffiti so I wanted to go for that street art feel and get some of my characters involved. I had a great time making this book and look forward to making many more. FYI the cover is faced with a beautiful 20 grit sandpaper, don’t you want to touch it. Hope you enjoy it!

Here are some really cool books an old schoolmate of mine, Wendy is making and selling. I think they’re great! I just made my first book and think I may be addicted. I will post pictures of my book soon so stay posted!
